The 1954 MERCURY XM800 SCRIPT  CONCEPT CAR
I've found a few more interesting pieces of XM-800 history in the past few weeks that I'd like to share with you.

First of all, My friend Ron stopped in to check the progress of the restoration a couple weeks ago and while here
he presented me with a magazine called "The Motor" from March 10th, 1954. Ron found it on ebay.
It's a British weekly automobile magazine and there is a picture of the XM-800 in it with a short caption. Here is the cover of the magazine and a scan of the page with the XM-800
What would we do without ebay these days??

Here's another one I found on ebay. It's a Lincoln Mercury publication called "Fine Cars" and is similar to the Ford version "Ford Times" however "Fine Cars" is very rare and hard to find and what a stroke of luck to find the one with the XM-800 in it. It's the October 1954 issue.

The information about the XM-800 appearing in the 1954 movie "Womans World" (see PAGE 3) is in the center of the magazine. They also mention the Lincoln X-100 concept car which is my all time favorite concept car. Unfortunately I'll never get my hands on it as it is in the Henry Ford Museum. Here's the full page followed by enlargements of the XM-800 portions

here is a picture taken today May 12, 2009 which is a similar view to the one in the 1954 movie. Looks the same except that there is no interior in the new picture and the environment is a little different.

here are a couple more pictures taken today

While at Barrett-Jackson this past January selling the "F" Bird I met Marty Martino. Marty built a marvelous exact replica of the Pontiac Club de Mer concept car which he sold there. Here is a picture of me and my pal Mari in the Club de Mer

Anyway, Marty is a huge fan of the XM-800. So huge in fact that he makes a 1/24 scale model of it! After he got back home from Barrett-Jackson he mailed me one of the models and here it a picture of it.

Thanks again Marty!!
I hope you don't mind but I do intend to repaint it the correct XM-800 colors.
I might also mention that Marty is currently restoring the 1955 Chev Biscayne concept car for Joe Bortz. Here's what that looked like new

Here is the steering wheel restored (still waiting for the horn ring to come back from the plater) and the rear panel that goes between the impact bar and rear bumper. The license plate goes in the center and flips down to reveal the gas tank filler.

Here is what these two parts looked like before restoration
